Description
The Plains is an estate cottage built in the early 19th century, designed in the Regency Gothic style. It is a single-storey structure made of red brick, with pantiles laid over thatch and a fully hipped roof that features wide eaves overhangs. The central semi-circular bay includes two 2-light windows with pointed heads, flanking a plank door that has pilaster strips. There are two blocked openings for similar windows on either side, along with a matching window in each gable end, the one on the right retaining its original glazing and leading. At the rear, there is a mid-19th century extension that forms an L-shape, also constructed of red brick and pantiles. On the south side of this extension, there are two 3-light casements with cambered heads, and a large gabled dormer with a 4-light window. A plank door with a cambered head leads to the frame. The building has landscape value and may have been built as a gamekeeper's cottage.
