Description
Elms Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse that has been divided into two sections, with the south-western side still associated with the farm. It features two storeys and attics, built on a basic three-cell plan. The structure is timber-framed and rendered, topped with a plain tiled roof.
An internal chimney stack has a large panelled shaft and a heavy oversailing head that is corbelled out over a rectangular panelled base, adorned with dentil decoration. The building has four windows on both the ground and first storeys, consisting of casements with transoms; three of these are three-light windows, and one is a two-light window. There are three gabled dormers with plain barge-boards and small-paned casement windows.
The farmhouse includes two matching doors with flush panels, plain surrounds, and slightly curved pediments. Inside, little framing is exposed, but there is a fine dog-leg stair with turned balusters and rounded finials located in an original small wing behind the chimney stack, which rises to the first storey only.
