Description

This house, located at 79 Raingate Street in Bury St Edmunds, dates from the early 19th century and was restored by the Bury St Edmunds Town Trust in 1988. It is constructed from random flint and stone with red brick dressings, and the side facing Honey Hill is also finished in red brick. The roof is partly slate with a wide eaves overhang and partly covered in pantiles. The building sits on a corner site with a rounded brick corner.

The exterior features a mix of single and two-storey sections, with a cellar. On the side facing Schoolhall Street, the main range has three upper-storey sash windows, each with 12 panes and segmental-arched heads, frames, and plain reveals. The ground storey has two similar sash windows and one small-paned two-light casement window. The entrance is a six-panel door topped with a small rectangular fanlight, set in a shallow segmental-arched frame. The single-storey range has two windows, both with segmental-arched heads and surrounds, one being a four-pane window and the other a two-light small-paned casement. The side facing Honey Hill features a 12-pane sash window in plain reveals for each storey, both with a segmental brick arch and a projecting stone sill.

Inside, there are no visible features from before the 19th century above ground level.
