Description
The Kedington War Memorial is a structure built in 1921 by E C Green. It is made of Portland stone and features a cross on a tapering octagonal shaft, which sits atop an octagonal pedestal with a two-stepped octagonal base. The arms of the cross are adorned with relief-carved roses. In the late 1990s, the original inscription was replaced with new stones attached to the plinth.
The main inscription on the south face of the pedestal reads: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD/ AND IN GRATEFUL MEMORY/ OF THE MEN OF KEDINGTON/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES/ FOR THE HONOUR AND/ SAFETY OF THEIR COUNTRY/ IN TWO WORLD WARS/ 1914 – 1919/ 1939 – 1945." The names of the fallen are listed on the plinth faces: eight names on the west face, eight names on the south-west face, and two names from the First World War and four names from the Second World War on the south-east face. Additionally, the east face features another inscription that reads: "TRANQUIL YOU LIE YOUR/ KNIGHTLY VIRTUE PROVED,/ YOUR MEMORY HALLOWED IN/ THE LAND YOU LOVED."
The memorial is set within a square enclosure that is kerbed and paved, surrounded by eight low stone pillars.
