Description

Gaines Hall is a 16th-century timber-framed and plastered house located in Wickhambrook, specifically at Attleton Green. It is one of the three manor halls of Wickhambrook. The manor of Gaynes Attilton was held by the De Bures family since the time of Edward I. Robert de Bures held the lordship and received a grant of free warren in 1314. The manor remained with the De Bures family until 1361, when it was acquired by Sir Richard de Weldegrave. It stayed in this family until 1554, when it was sold to Humphrey Mosley. A fire impacted the sale at that time, and the current house was likely built after this event. The building has one storey and attics, featuring windows that are partly double-hung sashes with glazing bars and partly casements. The roof is thatched and includes two gabled dormers.
