Description

Ridge House is a house located in Rickinghall Superior, dating from around 1840. It features a timber frame that is plastered and scored to resemble ashlar, topped by a shallow hipped slate roof. The front of the house has five bays and is designed as a square block with two storeys.

There are steps leading up to a central entrance, which has a part raised, fielded door with six panels and a fret pattern. Above the door is a traceried oblong fanlight, framed by a semi-round architrave. The entrance is sheltered by a reused late 18th century Roman Doric porch, which has fluted columns and a wave-moulded frieze. The windows are flush moulded frame glazing bar sashes, with moulded hoods supported by shaped brackets. The first floor windows are smaller and have margin glazing.

The house has an offset plinth with a cellar window to the left and an eaves cornice. There are two white brick stacks located in the central valley between the outer bays, each with oversailing caps. The right return of the house has French windows and 2 and 3-light casements with hoodboards, and the roof has a double hip design.

On the left return, there is a ground floor architraved casement that replaces an entrance towards the rear. At the rear, the ground floor features a bay window to the right with transomed 3-light glazing bar casements. In the centre and to the right, there is a lean-to outshut with a half-glazed door and a 3-light casement. The first floor has part opening metal frame leaded 3-light casements. Additionally, there is a stable outbuilding at the rear right, which has an open front and is trellissed with turned uprights. The interior has not been inspected.
