Description
Hill House is a house dating from the late 17th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. It has a timber frame that was uncovered at the time of inspection. The house consists of two bays and has one storey with an attic. The frame includes some reused earlier timber and features straight and cranked arched braces that are halved outside the studding, which is made of small scantling and lacks a mid-rail. The posts are jowled and have straight braces leading to a central tie beam. Inside the left bay, there is a chamfered axial binding beam. The roof structure includes collars clasping purlins with coupled rafters, all made of small scantling. The original cross entry was located to the left of the centre and retains a boarded door at the rear. The house has diamond mullioned windows, with five lights on the upper storey at the front and four and five lights on the ground floor at the rear. A two-light casement dormer window remains in place. Originally, there was an external stack on the left end of the house. An early addition has been made at right angles to the left side, which is currently being rebuilt.
