Description

Monks Close is a house dating from the 17th century, located in Woolpit Masons Lane. It is a one-and-a-half-storey building with an attic, originally comprising three rooms arranged around a lobby entrance. The house is timber-framed and rendered with plaster, and has a thatched roof. Dormer windows with eyebrow casings are set into the roof, with leaded lights. Two chimneys are present, with shafts rebuilt in red brick during the late 19th century. The front of the house has two 19th-century three-light windows with leaded glass, and two sets of 19th- or 20th-century French windows with small panes of glass. A 19th-century porch with a thatched roof provides access to a half-glazed entrance door with small panels. A two-storey, full-length lean-to extension was added to the rear in the 19th century. The interior was extensively remodelled in the 19th century, and the original timber framing is largely concealed.
