Description
The Old Cottage is a house, which was later divided into two dwellings. It dates back to the 16th century, with a stack and floor inserted in the late 17th century, and has been altered in the 20th century. The building has a timber frame that is plastered and features a thatched roof. It consists of a small two-bay open hall that has been floored, with a stack inserted in the cross passage. The cottage is one storey high with an attic. The original entrance was on the left side, but it has since been moved to the right. There are 19th and 20th century two and three-light glazing bar casements, along with two eyebrow thatched dormers. The internal left gable end has a stack, and the roof is hipped to the right. The thatch extends down over later lean-to outshuts on both ends. At the rear, there is an entrance in the cross passage position, along with a 20th century dormer and addition. Inside, the framing has been altered and features tension braces, with the tenon of a former arched brace remaining in the central hall post, and a stop-chamfered axial binding beam.
