Description
The Old Forge is a house dating from the late 15th century to early 16th century. It is constructed with a timber frame and plastered exterior, topped with a thatched roof. The building has one and a half storeys and features various casement windows, along with an eyebrow dormer on each slope of the roof. An internal stack is present. To the north, there is a converted smithy that forms a wing of the house; this section is single storey, has a hipped pantiled roof, and includes a mid-20th century entrance door. Originally, it was an open hall house with storied ends, and the stack was added later into the upper end of the hall. On the ground floor, part of an original hall window is exposed, and although the open truss has been removed, the blocked mortices for its arched braces can still be seen in the wall posts on the ground floor.
