Description
Oak Farm Cottage is a former farmhouse that has been converted from two cottages into a single dwelling. It dates back to the late 16th century, with alterations made in the late 19th century. The building is timber framed and encased in red brick, topped with a roof of double Roman tiles. It stands two storeys high with an attic and has a three-cell layout.
The cottage features four windows, which are late 19th-century mullion and transom casements, each with a single horizontal glazing bar and wedge lintels. There are two matching doorways, each with panelled doors and gabled hoods that have drop finials. Inside, there is an internal stack, and the hall boasts a well-crafted moulded cross-beamed ceiling with chamfered joists, although most of these joists are concealed.
Additionally, there is some re-used 17th-century fielded oak panelling along the cross-passage, and evidence of two service doorways that have since been removed. On the upper floor, parts of the timber frame are visible, while other timbers have been covered with wallpaper.
