Description

The three Blakely monuments, located about 5 to 15 meters north of the Church of St. Margaret in Thrandeston Little Green, are a group of three chest tombs dedicated to members of the Blakely family. They date from the late 18th century and early 19th century, with all said to have been restored in 1843. Constructed from ashlar, each tomb features moulded bases and rounded cappings.

The tomb closest to the church belongs to E. Blakely, who died in 1796. Its long sides have two raised vertical panels, with intermediate and angle bellied pilasters that have moulded neckings, while the short sides feature single raised panels. Two sides of this tomb are inscribed.

The middle tomb is dedicated to L. Blakely, who died around 1780, along with other Blakely family members buried in the early 19th century. This tomb has lightly moulded pilasters at the angles and center on the long sides, along with recessed octagonal panels that have four curved sides, most of which are inscribed.

The furthest tomb is for J. Blakely, who died in 1817, and J. Rix Blakely, who died in 1837. It features recessed octagonal panels with four curved sides and slightly cambered heads set in depressed arched surrounds, with two inscribed panels on the long sides and bellied pilasters at the angles.
