Description

Street Farm House is a house dating from the mid to late 16th century, built in two phases, with possible earlier origins. It has been partially rebuilt and altered in the 20th century. The structure features a timber frame that is plastered, and it has steeply pitched roofs covered with machine tiles. The main range consists of four bays, with a two-bay wing that projects forward from the left of center, creating a T-shaped layout.

The house has two storeys and attics. A 20th-century entrance is located to the right of the projecting wing, which also has 20th-century two- and three-light glazing bar casements. The eaves are boxed and slightly lower on the main range. There is a ridge stack with a rebuilt capping situated to the left of center, serving the parlour, and an internal stack on the left side of the forward wing.

Inside, the parlour and rooms in the forward wing feature stop-chamfered binding beams and joists. The service end to the right has been largely rebuilt, but some early studding remains, with the eaves level apparently raised. There is a reused post with a moulded head, and arched braces supporting cambered tie beams. The parlour chamber includes reverse cranked arched bracing in close-studded walls, a roll and hollow moulded cross axial binding beam pegged into chamfered principals, and square set roll moulded joists. The main range has a queen post roof with cambered collars and longitudinal arched braces over the parlour, and there is a possible smoke bay at the center, which has been rebuilt to the right. The forward wing features cambered collars and halved principals clasping purlins, along with cranked windbraces.
