Description
Upper Abbey Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the 17th century at the rear and has a front that was built in the late 18th century, facing south. The earlier section is timber framed, partially encased in brick, and features a plastered gable end with a pantiled roof. The building has two storeys and an attic, with casement windows that have small panes and plain boarded doors.
The 18th-century front is made of red brick and includes a brick band at the first floor level and a brick modillion cornice. The roof at the front is slated, while the rear has plain tiles. This section also has two storeys plus an attic and features a three-window range with sashes that have glazing bars and flat arches. The central doorway is recessed and contains a six-panel door, flanked by pilasters and topped with a broken pediment, with panelled reveals. Above the door is a semi-circular fanlight with radiating and circular glazing bars. There is a 20th-century brick porch added to the building.
