Description

This is a farmbuilding located approximately 5 yards northwest of Alderton Hall, dating from the 17th century or earlier. It is constructed of rubble flint with ashlar and brick dressing, topped with a pantile roof. The building has two storeys.

On the yard front, there is a cambered-headed opening on the right with a stable door, and a square-headed opening on the left featuring a wooden lintel and a loft door to the first floor, which is set in a brick surround, similar to the stable door below. To the right of this main structure is a single-storey range of buildings that are not included in this listing. The left gable end has a diagonal buttress on the right that dies back with an ashlar offset, and ashlar quoins above. There is also a projecting gabled shed at ground floor level on the left, which is not included in this listing. Above this shed, on the first floor, are two blocked openings and a blocked opening in the gable with a chamfered ashlar surround. At the rear, there is a 19th-century lean-to outshut with a catslide roof that conceals the rear wall.

Inside, the ground floor features chamfered oak ceiling beams, and there are further blocked openings visible in the walls. The original purpose of this building is unclear; it may have served as a priest's house or could be a later structure utilizing medieval stonework from the nearby collapsed church tower.
