Description
The serpentine wall is located on the west side of Garden Lane, extending for about 40 meters between The Bridles and Paddocks Green. It dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century and is constructed of red brick. The wall is mostly 3.5 meters high, although it is lower and partly rebuilt at the southern end. A segmental-arched doorway was added in the mid-20th century. From the south end of this wall, a straight wall runs west for approximately 60 meters, situated to the south of numbers 3 and 4 The Ridings. This straight wall connects to a second serpentine wall that runs for about 40 meters behind numbers 4, 5, and 6 The Ridings, as well as number 12 Paddocks Green. All these walls were likely part of a large kitchen garden.
