Description
The dovecot at Flixton Hall is a Grade II* listed structure dating from the early 17th century. It is constructed of red brick and covered with plain tiles. The dovecot is circular in shape and features a conical roof topped with an octagonal wooden cupola that has semi-circular arched openings and a concave roof. There are three square window openings at different heights, each with chamfered brick surrounds; one window retains its original leaded-paned casement. A small original doorway, positioned high on the structure, has a chamfered surround and a plank door. Inside, there are 23 tiers of small, square nesting boxes built into the walls. A central post rises to about 15 feet, supporting a circular platform at the top, with a ladder attached to it. The ladder features a single central shaft with rungs and rotates with the post, allowing access to the nesting boxes.
