Description
The barn at Parham Hall dates from the early to mid 17th century. It is timber framed and covered with weatherboarding, topped by a pantiled roof. The structure consists of five bays, featuring a cart entrance in the middle bay. The wall framing includes a significant amount of re-used timber, lacks a middle rail, and has a pair of primary braces in each bay with bisected studs. The trusses originally had long arched braces, which have now been replaced with bolted-on knees. The roof is exceptionally well-finished, comprising six bays with a half-bay at each end, which shows signs of alterations or shortening during construction. The roof features butt purlins and clasped purlins, along with diminished principal rafters. There are mortice and peg-holes indicating missing windbraces that were never installed.
