Description
No 97 on High Street is a building dating from the 15th to 16th century, constructed with timber framing and plaster, topped with a tiled roof. It features a large internal chimney stack on the west side, which originally had four octagonal shafts but now has two with moulded bases. The building has been restored and renovated, with the timber framing exposed on the upper storey. It stands two storeys high and has three windows that are 19th-century double-hung sashes. The ground floor includes a former shop front with a window added in an old style. At the south end, a former cart entrance has been modified to include a door and window in a medieval style. On the upper storey at the north end, there is a blocked original window along with restored high-level windows. Access to the doorway is via a flight of steps from the pavement, which has iron handrails. Inside, the building boasts fine carved beams.
