Description
The Church of St Lawrence is a 15th-century church located on Church Road in Little Waldingfield. It is constructed from flint and stone, with the nave, aisles, and chancel faced in cement. The west tower features four stages, diagonal buttresses, and an embattled parapet, which is stepped up at the corners and adorned with headless figures of priests instead of pinnacles. Both the nave and aisles have embattled parapets and perpendicular windows. At the east end of the nave, there are two octagonal rood staircase turrets topped with crocketted spirelets. The south porch is built of alternating courses of flint and brick, also featuring an embattled parapet with a crowstepped front. Inside, the nave boasts unusual decorated arches and piers with battlemented capitals. A notable feature is the octagonal Jacobean pulpit, intricately carved with representations of the evangelists and monks in Benedictine habit. The church also contains 16th-century brasses, including an early 16th-century brass commemorating a man and wife along with their 13 children. Additionally, there is a 15th-century octagonal font, carved with the emblems of the four Evangelists and monks in Benedictine habit. The church is recognized for its architectural and historical significance.
