Description
Lawshall Hall is a mid-16th century red brick house featuring some blue brick diapering, built in a T-shaped plan with an older wing extending to the north-west. It is believed to have been part of an old monastery and has substantial brick walls that are said to be up to 6 feet thick in places. The north-west end of the front wing retains part of the original wall, which includes two small stone-framed windows and a Tudor arched doorway with a square hood mould. The house has undergone significant alterations, including a refronting of the south-west front in the 19th century, which introduced a range of three double-hung sash windows. The north-east wing contains some original brick 3-light mullioned and transomed windows, although some are partly blocked. The roof is tiled and dates from the 20th century. The house is dated 1557 and features the arms of the Drury family. It is said that Queen Elizabeth I stayed here in 1578.
