Description
Arundel House is a timber-framed and plastered building that dates back to the 16th or 17th century, although it has been significantly altered in the 18th century and later. Isaac Taylor, the engraver and father of Jane and Ann Taylor, known for "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star," purchased this house in 1793 and lived there with his family for three years before relocating to Colchester. The house features a tiled roof with a tall central ridge chimney stack and stands two storeys high. It has a four-window range of double-hung sashes with glazing bars. The outer windows on the ground floor are tripartite, with narrow side panes. The entrance boasts a central six-panel door topped with a semi-circular fanlight, framed by a Tuscan doorcase that includes deep panelled reveals, plain columns, and an open pediment supported by console brackets. Additionally, there is a wing that extends to the east at the rear.
