Description
Ancient Houses Nos 1 to 4, located on the west side of The Street in Kersey, are a historic building dating from the 15th to 16th century. This timber-framed and plastered structure features a tiled roof and stands two storeys high. The most notable aspects of the building are the two projecting two-storeyed bays at the front, which have boldly moulded brick plinths and gables adorned with carved bargeboards that rise above the eaves.
The ground floor includes 7-light bar and transom bays with lattice leaded lights, along with remnants of moulded sills and frames. The upper windows are later casements set on moulded bressumers. The rest of the front displays exposed timber-framing and small casement windows, some of which are blocked original windows. The doorways are accessed by flights of steps leading up from the pavement. The property has been converted into flats.
