Description

The building at 1-5 Benton Street comprises a group of houses dating back to the 17th century, with probable 17th-century origins and subsequent alterations, particularly to the front facade. It is a two-storey timber-framed building, now plastered, with tiled roofs. A cross wing extends to the south. Cellars are present beneath the building. Two gabled attic dormers are visible on the main block. The front of the building, excluding the gable of the cross wing, was refaced with red brick in the 19th century. Photographic records of the building exist within the National Monuments Record.
