Description

Skate’s Hill House is a 17th-century timber-framed and plastered house, originally built on an L-shaped plan with wings extending to the east and north. The south front of the east wing was later refronted in the 19th century using grey gault brick. The north wing now has exposed timber framing, and the upper storey of the west front is jettied, featuring a moulded bressummer supported by curved brackets. The house has two storeys. The south front has a three-window range with double-hung sash windows with glazing bars on the ground floor. A central doorway is accentuated by an Ionic-style portico. The west front also has a three-window range, with double-hung sash windows and glazing bars. The exposed timber framing reveals several blocked original window openings. The roof is tiled and hipped, and an external chimney stack is located at the south end of the west front.
