Description
Markwells Farmhouse is a 17th-century house that is timber framed and plastered, featuring a red plain tiled roof. It has two red brick chimneystacks, one located off-centre to the right and the other on the external left. There is a brick extension to the left with a roof that is hipped to the left, as well as a rear wing. The house is two storeys high and has four small paned vertically and horizontally sliding sash windows on the first floor, and three on the ground floor. The front door, located off-centre to the right, is a four-panel, two-light door with a fluted surround, frieze, and a flat canopy supported by brackets. Inside, notable features include through bracing to the wall studs, exposed bridging and ceiling joists in some rooms, and one bridging joist that has boundary inscriptions on each face, one stating 'Holbrook Boundary' and the other 'Stutton Boundary, 1832'. The floors are made of brick, and there are open fireplaces with mantel beams above.
