Description
West House, located at 1692 Ballingdon Street, is a 17th to 18th century building that stands two storeys high with attics. It features a timber frame and plastered exterior, with tiled roofs. The structure is L-shaped and includes additional wings. The entrance front, which is on the west side, dates from the 18th century and has a four-window range of flush frame sashes with glazing bars. It also has a moulded wood eaves cornice and two gabled attic dormers, along with an attached chimney shaft at the north end. There are two doorcases with flat hoods on the south side, and the street front has been refaced in 19th century Suffolk brick. West House is included for its group value with Nos 60 to 54, which together with other listed buildings on the north-west side, including The King's Head Public House and The Transport Cafe on Bulmer Road, form an important group.
