Description

Heckingham Hall is a farmhouse dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. It is constructed of red brick, which is partly colourwashed, and features an earlier wing that is timber framed and refaced. The building has a steeply-pitched roof made of black-glazed pantiles and is designed in a T-shaped plan, with two storeys and attics.

The south facade is symmetrical with five bays, featuring sashes with glazing bars set under rubbed brick arches. The central doorway has a six-panelled door and a rectangular fanlight with decorative glazing bars. The doorcase is adorned with fluted pilasters and a Doric entablature. A wooden modillion eaves cornice runs along the roofline, and the gables are parapeted with internal chimney stacks. The east gable has two sashes with glazing bars, while the west gable includes a 20th-century glazed door in a segmental-headed opening and a two-light first-floor casement.

The earlier wing to the north has an east facade with two ground floor and two first floor three-light casements, all with glazing bars and segmental heads. There are rubbed brick arches over the ground floor openings, and a central doorway with a six-panelled door and a plain pilastered doorcase. The wing also features two segmental-headed lead-roofed dormers with two-light casements and a central ridge stack with a plain plaque at its base. The north gable is rendered and colourwashed. Additionally, there is a catslide extension at the north-west corner, which includes a gabled dormer, a ground floor casement, and a doorway, all of which are from the 20th century.
