Description
The Church of St Mary is a Grade I listed building located on Church Lane in Tasburgh. The round west tower, likely dating from the 11th century, features blind arcading in two tiers and a later top stage with lancet bell-openings. The nave has two-light Perpendicular windows, while the north and south chancel windows are also Perpendicular and flat-headed, all of which have been renewed. The east window was added in the 19th century. A north porch from the 15th century leads into the church, which has late 19th-century hammerbeam roofs in both the nave and chancel. Inside, there are a few 15th-century bench ends with poppy-heads, a fine 15th-century octagonal font with a Jacobean cover featuring an openwork obelisk, and the base of a screen from the 14th and 15th centuries. Additionally, there is a late 16th-century tomb chest situated in the sedilia and some early 19th-century headstones in the churchyard.
