Description
Bottle Cottages, Nos 1 to 4, is a row of four early to mid-19th century cottages located on Diss Road in Scole. The cottages are constructed of flint cobbles with red brick dressings and have a black pantile roof with gabled ends. They are two storeys high with a four-window range. The windows are two-light casements; No. 3 retains glazing bars, while Nos. 2 and 4 have modern windows. The doors are flush-panelled or glazed, with a modern gabled porch at No. 4. A distinctive feature is the incorporation of bottle ends into the facade, particularly above the windows and doorways, reportedly originating from a celebration following the Battle of Waterloo. This feature is further documented in Country Life, Correspondence, 11 August 1960.
