Description
The Tacolneston War Memorial is a First World War memorial built around 1920, with names added after the Second World War. Made of stone, it is located in the churchyard of the Grade I listed All Saints Church. The memorial is prominently positioned to the left of the churchyard entrance and is visible from the main road. It features a stone Latin cross with a downturned bronze sword of sacrifice on the front, set on an octagonal shaft with a moulded foot, which rests on an octagonal plinth and a three-stepped octagonal base. The design is reminiscent of Sir Reginald Blomfield’s Cross of Sacrifice. The plinth includes inscriptions in incised and blackened lettering, which read: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD THE GIVER OF ALL VICTORY AND IN GRATEFUL/ REMEMBRANCE OF THE MEN OF TACOLNESTON WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES/ FOR THEIR COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 1919/ (NAMES)/ ALSO IN PROUD AND GLORIOUS MEMORY OF THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR/ LIVES IN THE WORLD WAR 1939 – 1945/ (NAMES)."
