Description

Old Hall is a 16th or 17th century timber-frame house, with an east range that was remodelled and enlarged in the early 18th century using red brick. During this period, a parallel west range was added. The building features a double span hipped pantile roof and a modillion eaves cornice. The west front has a parapet with a moulded brick modillion cornice. It is two storeys high with an attic and has a symmetrical arrangement of windows: 2:3:2, with the centre three being advanced and pedimented. The windows are sashes with glazing bars and flat brick arches. The central doorway is adorned with a moulded architrave featuring a keyblock and a pediment supported by console brackets.

On the rear (east) elevation, there are mullion and transom casements with leaded panes, along with a central two-panel door that has a pediment hood resting on large carved brackets. The building is topped with three moulded brick chimney stacks that have octagonal flues.

Inside, the hall features an open well staircase with an open string, alternating turned and twisted balusters, and a moulded rail. One ground floor room showcases 18th century fielded panelling and shutters, while another has 17th century panelling and a moulded ceiling beam with carved stops. On the first floor, one room includes fielded panelling and a chimney piece with a shouldered architrave, and another room features a chimney piece with a bolection moulded architrave and a panelled overmantel with a cornice. Overall, the interior contains various 17th and 18th century moulded and fielded panelling, with some exposed timber-framing and stopped chamfered ceiling beams in the earlier parts.
