Description

The water pump, built in 1835, is made of cast iron by Watts of Norwich. It stands approximately 2.3 meters high and features a 1.6-meter handle. The barrel has a 4-inch bore, with clasped bands and a knob finial. This pump is one of six that were installed by Howlett and Bacon for the Norwich and Thetford Turnpike Trust to supply water for dust suppression on the main road, each costing £14-12-0d plus an additional 3 shillings for a padlock. Originally located about 600 meters to the west over a 72-foot bore, the pump was relocated due to road widening around 1974.
