Description
The lofted cartshed at Thornage Hall Farm, dating from the early 18th century, is constructed from coursed flint and brick, topped with pantiles. It features an open front facing south, supported by five posts at the front and center. Above, there is vertical weatherboarding for the loft. The internal walls are made of brick and flint, with many blocked openings and some chamfered joists. The gables are designed with coursed flint and brick mosaics, accented with brick dressings and gable parapets. There is a left door in the right-hand gable, with external brick stairs leading to a pointed arch. The loft has a roof supported by two rows of purlins and two collars, with straight wind braces to the upper purlins and some renewed rafters. On the north side, there are two long rectangular blocked brick windows. Externally, some wooden mullions are exposed in openings under the continuous outshut roof of the open-fronted cartshed. This structure forms a group with Thornage Hall and the associated barns.
