Description

Number 6 Knight Street is a 17th-century house built of flint, featuring an early 19th-century front made of buff brick with a moulded wooden cornice. The house has a steeply pitched roof covered with black-glazed pantiles and coped gable ends. The north end of the building has an early 18th-century red brick section with a string course, while the south end has a lower-pitched roof added later. The house is two storeys tall with an attic and has four windows, which are sashes with exposed cases and glazing bars. The left-hand window is later and set in reveals with stone lintels.

There is a prominent early 19th-century doorcase that is off centre, featuring decorated panelled pilasters, a fluted frieze with paterae, a fluted and moulded cornice, a moulded architrave, and panelled reveals, along with a panelled and glazed door. A blocked doorway is located to the left of the main entrance. The house also has two early 19th-century flat-roofed dormers with sashes that include glazing bars.

On the north end, there is a one-storey wing with a steep black-glazed pantile roof and a buff brick wall topped with a parapet. This wing features a pilastered doorcase with an entablature. Inside, the house has chamfered beams and an 18th-century staircase with turned balusters and a moulded rail. At the rear, there is an 18th-century wing made of red brick with a brick string course and a hipped roof. This wing is two storeys tall with two windows, which are sashes with glazing bars, the first floor having thick glazing bars. The interior of the ground floor room in this wing features fielded panelling.
