Description
Nos 5 and 6 Chesterfield Villas are a pair of cottages ornés built around 1879, likely designed by architect David Brandon. They are constructed from flint ashlar with a close studded timber frame, featuring a plain tiled roof and a central brick chimney stack. The symmetrical layout includes a central cross wing and stack, with the plan set back to create an entrance hall beneath a roof outshut. The flintwork ashlar is stepped to form a buttress below the central cross wing. The roofs are adorned with twin flat-roofed leaded dormers, while the gables feature small bracketed oriel windows with simple casements. The central chimney stack is vertically ribbed with canted bricks, and the gables are topped with terracotta foliate finials, with the cross wing gable being hipped. These cottages were built by John and Margaret Bond Cabbell following the expansion of Cromer Hall and were named after John Bond Cabbell's London residence, 1 Chesterfield Gardens.
