Description
The barn at Abbey Farm, located approximately 70 meters north of Abbey Farmhouse, dates back to 1671. It is constructed from coursed flint and pebble erratics, topped with pantiles and features gable parapets. The barn has five steads and two high blocked openings on the north facade, along with a low central doorway that has a wooden bressummer on both the north and south sides. The west gable facing the yard incorporates some stone from former monastic buildings and includes an inserted small central doorway, five brick-dressed ventilation slits above, and decorative brickwork featuring lozenges, hearts, and the date 1671. The east gable has remnants of attached parts, possibly indicating the remains of a former stair at the northeast angle, with thin courses of brick visible. Inside, the barn boasts a four-tier butt purlin roof with two sets of collars and braces supporting the third tier. This barn was built on the foundations of a former monastic range of the Priory.
