Description
Old Mill House is a mid-18th century miller's house that served a now-demolished water mill. It is built of brick and features a roof made of black glazed pantiles. The house has three storeys and is arranged in three bays. The central entrance consists of a half-glazed door set within a timber doorcase, which is topped by an open pediment and a five-vaned fanlight. The sash windows are fitted with glazing bars and have gauged skewback arches. The corners of the building are reinforced with angle pilasters that end in block capitals, below a modillion eaves cornice. The third floor has a reduced height. The hipped roof is adorned with two stacks that are symmetrically placed.
At the rear, there is an early 19th-century two-storey extension, which is illuminated by segmental-headed casements and has a gabled roof with a central ridge stack. This extension leads to a hipped two-storey granary from the early 19th century, featuring two-light cross casements and loading doors on each floor. Inside the house, the staircase is notable for its wreathed handrail supported by square balusters of narrow section.
