Description

This is a road traffic prohibition sign located on Coast Road in Overstrand, dating from between 1904 and 1919. The sign features a cast-iron column that stands approximately 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall, decorated with black and white bands. At the top, it supports a cast-iron disc with a diameter of about 18 inches (450 millimeters), painted red. The column includes ring detailing at its base and mid-shaft, along with a simple decorative post cap that supports the disc. Additionally, there are mounting brackets at the top of the column for an instruction plate. A modern 'Neighbourhood Watch Area' sign has been attached to the column in the late 20th century.
