Description
Sunbeams is an early 18th-century house, originally an inn, located on the east side of High Street, Cley next the Sea. It is constructed of brick, colourwashed white, with black glazed pantile roofing. The building comprises five irregular bays with a two-bay addition to the right. The house has two storeys, with a shaped gable to the left and a gable parapet to the right, featuring gable end stacks and two axial stacks positioned between bays 2/3 and 5/6. Bays 1 to 5 have a platband and a plinth to bays 1 and 2, with flush sash windows containing glazing bars; the ground floor of bay 4 contains a blank opening, and bay 5 has a tripartite sash window. A single-storey, colourwashed porch stands in front of bay 3, built of brick with some flint, featuring a parapet with a moulded cornice, a semi-circular arch, and a moulded case surrounding a four-panelled door. Bays 6 and 7 are of colourwashed coursed flint with brick dressings; bay 6 has no openings, while bay 7 features flush sash windows with glazing bars. The left gable is of coursed flint and brick with brick patternwork, including a blocked central window to the first floor and a 19th-century door to the left. The right gable is of pebble flint with a late 19th-century door to the right.
