Description

This is a mid-19th century terrace of ten houses, numbered 3 to 15, located on the north side of Portland Street in King’s Lynn. The houses are built of brown brick with slate roofs, although the roof of number 11 is tiled with concrete. Each house has three storeys and a basement, arranged in three bays. Each house features a front door on the left side, with two sash windows to the right. The first and second-floor windows are symmetrically placed and do not directly line up with the ground-floor windows. The houses have a continuous gabled roof with chimney stacks positioned between the properties. A moulded brick band runs along the first floor of numbers 3 to 9. The front doors are panelled, set within doorcases featuring Corinthian columns supporting bracketed hoods. Number 7 has decorative foliage on its columns and hood, while the others have plain fluted columns. The doorcases of numbers 9 and 13 have been removed. Behind the doorcases are porches, which contain a rounded niche on either side. A passageway to the rear of the terrace is located between numbers 9 and 11. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars and gauged skewback arches, some of which are modern replacements with horns. Numbers 3 and 5 have scalloped window hoods to the ground and first floors. Wrought-iron area railings are positioned in front of the terrace. Numbers 3 to 9 have spear-head finials on the stiles and petal finials on the vertical bars, while numbers 11 to 15 have javelin finials throughout.
