Description
The war memorial, built in 1919, is located approximately 150 meters north-northwest of the Church of St. Mary Magdelene in Sandringham. It is constructed of limestone and carstone and features a cross with an octagonal base. The memorial is set on four octagonal steps made of shell carstone, which are capped with stone. Above these steps is an octagonal block topped with a low parapet decorated with strawberry leaves. The eight sides of the block have blank arches, with seven sides inscribed with the names of Sandringham's fallen soldiers from the First World War, while the eighth side displays the Royal arms in Portland stone along with the names of those who died in the Second World War. The memorial has a tapering shaft that supports the cross, which is adorned with decorative rays and flames at the ends of its arms. The top step bears an inscription stating that the cross was erected by King George V and Queen Mary to honor the officers and men of the Sandringham Company, 5th Battalion Norfolk Regiment, and others from the estate who fell in the Great War.
