Description
In front of Bank House in King's Lynn, there are wrought-iron railings and a gate dating from the late 18th century. A brick wall extends north from the east end of Bank House, ending in a square pier topped with ashlar set-off and coping. On this pier stands a 19th-century cast-iron lamp standard featuring a stiff-leaf capital on a cylindrical stem, which has spiral incised decoration on its lower part. The railings extend west along a stone-capped brick wall, with rectangular base and top rails supported by balls and pierced by square section verticals that have spear-head finials. The stiles are adorned with urns. The gates are mounted on a pair of box-section open iron piers made of square section verticals that also terminate in urns, connected by scrollwork. The railings return to the Counting House.
