Description
Morton Hall is a country house built in the early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick and features a hipped slate roof. The building has two and three storeys and presents a symmetrical east facade with seven bays. The central bay is slightly advanced and topped with a pediment, which is supported by Doric angle pilasters at the first floor level. Above the pediment, there is an octagonal cupola with a lead-covered dome. The central door and the first-floor window are adorned with canopies on console brackets. A stuccoed plat-band runs along the first floor, and there is a stuccoed and moulded eaves cornice. The house has large end stacks on both the north and south walls, as well as two stacks along the ridge line. A three-storey gabled cross wing is located on the west side, and there is a 20th-century canted porch. A 16th-century wing on the south-west side was demolished in the 1950s.
