Description
Two stable ranges located to the north and northwest of Shadwell Court were built between 1856 and 1860 and are noted for their stylistic differences. The north entrance features an archway with a shaped gable that includes an oriel window on the inner face and a stepped gable on the outer face. This section also has a full-height circular corner stair turret topped with a spirelet. The design includes a triangular oriel and punched cusped soundels with intricate carving. The stables are one to one and a half storeys high, with loose boxes that are accessed through tall gabled entrances in the west range, which feature pointed segmental arches. A particularly striking carved horse head surrounded by a naturalistic foliage border fills an arched niche in a subsidiary gable.
