Description
Long Coggles, located 150 yards northwest of the Church of St Ethelbert, is a range of three cottages dated 1735, featuring a combination of flint and brick construction with brick dressings and a thatched roof. The cottages are single-storey with gabled dormers on the western half of the range. Each dwelling has a stack positioned over the partitions, although the eastern cottage has a rebuilt central stack. The cottages have casement windows throughout. The eastern gable includes a ground floor window and an attic casement above, both framed with brick surrounds. Notable architectural details include elaborate brick tumbling and a parapet. At the rear, there is a full-length lean-to addition, likely from the late 18th century, made of flint with gault brick quoins and dressings, topped with a tiled roof. The rear of the eastern cottage features a single attic dormer. Many of the windows and doors have been replaced in the 20th century.
