Description
The Mundford War Memorial is a First World War memorial built in 1920, located on the east side of the A1065, south of the roundabout with the A134, originally at a junction of five roads. It is constructed from Portland stone.
The memorial features a column with simple mouldings at both the base and capital, topped with a square tablet and a bronze crucifix. It stands on a square pedestal and base. The plinth has inscriptions in incised lettering. The principal inscription on the south-west face reads: "TO THOSE / FROM THE LYNFORD ESTATE / WHO FELL GLORIOUSLY / FOR THEIR COUNTRY / IN THE GREAT WAR / 1914 – 1918 / RIP." The other faces display the names of those who fell in the conflict, along with dedications to those lost subsequently.
