Description
Howe Dell School is a former manor house and parsonage that has been converted into a school. It likely dates back to the 15th century and underwent alterations in 1534, the 17th century, and the late 18th century when a stable block was added to create an L-shaped plan. The original section features roughcast and plaster with a plain tile roof, standing two stories tall with attics. It has five gable ends adorned with cusped bargeboards, and the left gable of the former cross wing is larger than the others. The windows are irregularly spaced leaded casements. A projecting 19th-century addition on the right side includes a canted ground floor sash window, and there are tall 19th-century chimney stacks with diagonal shafts. The rear elevation showcases an early 19th-century four-window center, while the 17th-century red brick north wing complements the east wing, which has a symmetrical arrangement of windows. The east wing is two stories high with a floor band and a slightly projecting pedimented center, featuring small segmental-headed glazing bar sashes and brick dentil eaves under a plain tile hipped roof.
