Description

The Dell is a house that was originally built as an entrance lodge in the early 19th century, with 20th-century additions. It is constructed from gault brick and flint, topped with a hipped Welsh-slated roof featuring a central brick stack and diagonally set chimneys. The building has a simple central stack plan, with additional space to the right of the entrance that creates an internal side passage.

The house is a single storey with two bays and has an entrance at the front (south) end. The walls on the front, west side, and formerly the east side are set within arcades formed by tapered octagonal timber columns that support shallow pointed arches. The entrance front features a three-arch arcade, with a 20th-century door inserted in the right-hand arch. To the right, there is a partially glazed lean-to that encloses the remaining section of the right-hand side arcade. The central window has a brick surround and a small-paned cast iron frame. The left side has a four-arch arcade, with the two central arches being wider, and iron window frames are present in the walling. The left end has a 20th-century two-light window where a former rear doorway was located.

Inside, the former entrance now serves as an interior door from a 20th-century porch that is formed by the lean-to on the right side. The front room features vertical dado boarding and contemporary shelving in a niche, while the rear room retains the original surround to the hearth. Some original interior doors are still present.
