Description

The Jolly Gardener is a house, formerly a public house, dating back to the 16th century. A rear wing was added in the 17th century, and a further left extension was constructed between the 17th and 18th centuries. The building is a mix of plaster, painted brick, and exposed timber framing, and has a steep plain tile roof. The main part of the house has its upper floor projecting, supported by curved braces. It features two 20th-century leaded casement windows. A single casement window is present in the 17th-century rear wing, which also contains a 17th-century red brick chimney stack where it joins the main block. The left extension is single-storey with attic space, and features thin vertical studwork.
